If you are using the Internet for any sort of marketing purpose, you need traffic. Whether you are selling your latest product or you're using your website to try to drum up more business for your dental practice, without traffic you won't get very far. But how do you build up traffic to your website, products and/or services? You could pay for the traffic you want. Pay-per-click advertising is a very effective way to drive hundreds of visitors to your website, if you know what you're doing. On the other hand, if you are green and you pour your money into PPC advertising, you could quickly end up losing your shirt with hardly a thing to show for it. Instead, by spending just a few hours a day, you can put a few habits into practice that will drive all the traffic you want to your site and then some.
Article Marketing
If you can write, create a batch of engaging and useful articles that link back to your website. You can then post these articles on free article directories like Articlesbase, EzineArticles, GoArticles, etc. Google and the other search engines think highly of these directories and that means you have a greater likelihood of ranking for the keywords you use. Make sure your titles grab your readers and that your intros pull them further down the page. Use bullets and headers to break the content up and to make it easier to read and give your readers a nice call-to-action at the end. If done correctly, article marketing can drive hundreds of visitors to your site just from a single article.
Press Releases
Another idea is to spend a little bit of time crafting engaging press releases that announce the start of your business or the launch of your latest product or website. The idea is to hook people into checking your business out without giving too much away. Remember to be unbiased and to leave out words like you, I, etc. You can then submit your PRs to free directories or you can pay to post them to premier sites like PRWeb. You can even submit them to your local newspaper to drive some offline traffic to your business, as well.
Social Networking
These days it is easier than ever to drive traffic to your site if you know how to use social networking effectively. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and social bookmarking sites like Digg make it easy to connect with prospects and customers, as long as you give them what they're looking for. Make sure to post the articles you are writing in your updates in order to get people engaged and to "like" or retweet your article. Remember, it's called 'social networking' so remember to be social. Instead of just pitching products and services, try posting a poll. Ask for opinions on top news stories within your niche. Soon, whatever you're doing will catch on and you'll experience a flood of highly targeted traffic to your product, service or website.
Free Products
Instead of selling something on your website, why not give it away for free? Information products like e-books, reports and even videos can cause a heavy stream of traffic as everyone starts looking to you to solve their deepest problems. If you have a website where you sell hair loss products, why not give away a free report where you teach how to deal with hair loss? Or you could offer some home remedies for hair loss. Ideally, you'll want to offer this free gift as a show of appreciation for opting-in to your email list. That way, you'll have a ready-to-go income stream whenever you have a new product to launch. But regardless, a free book, report or video will get you all the exposure you need. Not only that, but these items always have a chance to go viral, and that's when you'll see serious amounts of traffic your server may have trouble putting up with.
If you want to drive serious traffic to your website, you'll want to put these actions into practice daily. It only takes a few minutes to draft an article or press release that can be submitted for free online and it doesn't take any time at all to chat with prospects on the various social networking channels. You may not see any results at first, but you cannot give up. Too many people start their traffic building venture only to quit right before their efforts begin to pay off. Instead, learn to recognize the point in which you feel like quitting. That should tell you that you're almost there. Instead of giving up, push through and submit more articles, more press releases and search for more likes on Facebook and more retweets on Twitter. Eventually, you'll have more traffic than you know what to do with and that's when your business is sure to take off.
